Connecting Your RS-232 Serial Extender
The diagram below demonstrates how to connect the RS-232 Serial Extender to your
devices. The kit contains two modules: the local unit (with a female RS-232 serial port)
and the remote unit (with a male RS-232 serial port). The local unit connects to the
source device that you wish to print or send information from (computer, point-of-sale
terminal, etc.). The remote unit connects to the destination device that will receive the
information (printer, computer, etc.). You will use a standard Catagory 5 Ethernet cable
to connect the two modules. For distances of up to 1000 feet (330 meters), you only need
to connect a power adapter to one module (either the local unit or the remote unit). For
longer distances, connect a power adapter to both modules.
Once both modules are in place, the RS-232 Serial Extender becomes transparent to you
and your equipment. Your devices will function like they are connected directly.
