Using the Product Recovery
CD-ROM(s)

The following section describes how to use the Product Recovery CD-
ROM Restore utility. See also the manual that came with the optional CD-
ROM drive (PCGA-CD51 Series).

What is the Product Recovery CD-ROM(s)?

The Product Recovery CD-ROM(s) contains a backup copy of all the
software originally installed on your hard disk drive. You can reinstall
software supplied with your computer if it is corrupted or accidentally
erased.

The Product Recovery CD-ROM(s) Restore utility gives you two
options:

• Formats the hard disk drive and then restores all the original software.

• Changes the hard disk drive partition.  See “Changing the Hard Disk Partition” on page

60 for details.

Notes

• It can be used only to recover the hard disk of the computer you purchased.

• You can recover only the software supplied with your computer. It does not work for

the software you have installed yourself or the data you have created. You cannot
recover only Windows 98.

• The settings you changed will be returned to the default settings after recovering the

hard disk.

• If you recover the hard disk, it means that you remove all the data on the hard disk

drive. Before you start to recover, create the backup copy of important data.

• The second Sony Product Recovery CD-ROM (Vol.2 of 2) contains software drivers and

others. It is not required for reconfiguring your computer.
