Chapter 8 SCSI Commands
The Element Type Code field is set when selecting an element in respect to the
information returned by this command. When this field is 0, information for all
elements is returned. The definition of the Element Type Code is shown in
table.8.12.2.
Table 8.12.2 : Element type code
The Starting Element Address specifies the smallest returned Element Address.
Information is returned for elements having the Element Type Code specified in
the table above and an Element Address of at least the Starting Element
Address. An Element Descriptor Block is never generated for an undefined
Element Address.
The Number of Elements specifies the maximum number of Element
Descriptors generated by the autoloader with this command. The value specified
in this field does not indicate the range of Element Addresses of the returned
elements, it indicates the number of elements returned. If the Allocation Length
is insufficient to transfer all Element Descriptors, the autoloader transfers only
the Descriptors that can be transferred, but this is not treated as an error.
The S/N bit specifies whether or not the autoloader appends the drive serial
number to the Data transfer element descriptor. Depending on this value, the
following processing occurs.
0 - Drive serial number not appended.
1 - Drive serial number appended.
8.12.1. Element status data
The data returned by the READ ELEMENT STATUS command is defined in
table 8.12.1.1. The Element Status data is comprised of an 8-byte header and
one or more succeeding Element Status Pages.
