RAID controller card replacement
If the S-ATA connector cables are not returned to their
original positions on the RAID Controller Card, media
data will not be recoverable.
RAID controller card removal

Power off the unit (see “How to power off the server”
on page 45 ) and remove the rear lid (see “Rear lid
removal” on page 83 ) to access the part.

Make a note of the position of the eight S-ATA cables
connected to the card before disconnecting them and
moving them clear of the card.

Remove the Pan Head Screw, #6-32x4 mm retaining
screw which secures the card metal mounting panel to
the chassis.
The figure above shows the removal of a typical PCI
card and may not show the correct position. See
“Motherboard” on page 27 for the correct position of
the RAID controller card.

Withdraw the card upwards out of the chassis.
RAID controller card installation

Remove the replacement card from its packaging and
prepare for installation. Refer to your card manual for
details.

Position the new card so that the card-edge connector
from the system board aligns with the card connector.

Insert the card edge connector firmly into the
expansion card connector until the card is fully seated.

Replace and secure the expansion-card with the Pan
Head Screw, #6-32x4 mm screw previously removed.

Re-connect the controller card S-ATA cables in their
original connector locations.
If the S-ATA cables are not returned to their
original positions then media data will not be
recoverable.

Replace the rear lid (see “Rear lid replacement” on
page 83 ) and power on the server (see “How to power
on the system” on page 45 ).
Checks after replacement
After replacement, use the 3ware BIOS manager to set up
the Media RAID and the operation of the RAID controller
card (see
“Checking RAID controller BIOS settings” on
page 57 ).
