Precautions

Damage prevention

Do not subject the drive to shock or vibrations

Location requirements

Careful consideration should be given to the following in
selecting a site to install or store your drive.
Avoid the following conditions:
• High humidity
• High temperatures
• Direct sunlight
• Dust
• Strong vibrations
• Wide temperature fluctuations

Moving the drive

Be sure to remove the disc cartridge when the drive is not
being used. Also never move or transport the drive with the
disc cartridge still inserted.

If problems occur

If any problems occur, turn off and unplug the drive, and
then contact your dealer.

Cleaning

Cleaning the drive unit

DO NOT USE LENS CLEANING DEVICES.
The internal lens cleaning feature enhances dust protection.
Preventive measures were taken into account in the drive
design to guard against dust, therefore there is no need to
clean the optical lens of the drive. Using a lens cleaning
device may damage the lens.

Cleaning discs

Refer to the discription of the media.

Cartridge storage

Keep cartridges away from heat sources such as radiators,
or locations subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust,
and/or moisture.

Cooling requirements

Forced-air cooling is required throughout the drive to
prevent overheating of the drive mechanism and electrical
components. Forced-air cooling must be provided as a part
of system integration.

This maximum temperature applies to all operating
conditions specified in this manual.

Measuring point

Maximum temperature

Disc cartridge

55 °C (131 °F)

The temperature conditions specified in this manual must

Using a Disc Cartridge

Inserting a cartridge

Insert the cartridge from the front of the drive, as
illustrated.

Notes

• To avoid damaging the drive, take care not insert the

cartridge in the wrong direction.

• To avoid locking the cartridge, do not insert it into the

drive when the drive is off. If the cartridge is locked, turn
on the drive, confirm that the cartridge is completely
loaded into the drive, and then push the eject button.

Protecting data

Data cartridges are equipped with a write-protect switch to
prevent the accidental deletion of data on the disc or the
inadvertent writing of unwanted data.
Slide the switch in the direction of the arrow as illustrated
below. A red surface appears in place of the switch to
indicate that the cartridge is write-protected. To release the
protection, return the switch to its original position.

Ejecting a cartridge

If a cartridge cannot be ejected with the eject button or
SCSI EJECT command, turn off the drive, remove the
emergency eject hole cover, insert a Philips screwdriver
(diameter 5 mm/0.2 in. or less) into the hole, and then turn
it counterclockwise while pushing it forward until the
cartridge comes out from the drive. To avoid damaging the
drive and/or the cartridge, do not force the screwdriver to
turn if you feel resistance.

Note

If the cartridge still cannot be ejected after performing the
above, contact your dealer.
