PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE COMMISSIONING PROCEDURE
The pressure reducing valves must be set and commissioned for the gas booster. This procedure can
be conducted with either cold water or solar preheated water, however the temperature of the solar
preheated water must not exceed 58°C.
To set and commission the pressure reducing valves:
1. The gas booster water heaters are to be set to turn on and off in the following manner:
The gas booster installation should be sized to cater for the cold water temperature in winter
and assuming a period of no solar gain. The climate chart is based on a flow rate from a
shower rose not exceeding 9 litres per minute and a tempered water temperature of 42°C.

2. Commission each of the gas booster water heaters prior to setting the pressure reducing valve on
the solar preheat branch to the gas booster water heater (refer to
“Commissioning”
on page 30).
3. Turn on the water, gas and electricity to the gas booster water heaters.
4. Loosen the locking screw on each SYR valve with a flat bladed screw driver.
To adjust the SYR valve during this commissioning procedure, turn the knob:

Anti-clockwise
= delay unit ignition
¾
Clockwise
= bring forward unit ignition
5. Open 1 x hot shower or tap at between 7-8 litres / min. The first gas booster water heater (without
SYR valve) should ignite and provide hot water.
Notes
The flow rate from each shower or tap throughout this commissioning procedure should be
between 7-8 litres / min.
When turned on, each shower or tap must be at an equal flow rate.
6. Set the temperature of any temperature limiting device installed downstream of the manifold.
7. Open the maximum number of showers suitable for 1 x gas booster water heater in accordance
with the climate chart. Only the first gas booster water heater should be operating. If other gas
booster water heaters are operating, adjust their SYR valves by turning the knob anti-clockwise
until the unit turns off.
8. Open the next shower. The second gas booster water heater should ignite. If it fails to ignite, adjust
the SYR valve by turning the knob clockwise until the unit turns on. If other gas booster water
heaters ignite, adjust their SYR valves by turning the knob anti-clockwise until the unit turns off.
