2.2 Connecting RollPCI to the RollNet Network
•
Connect the RollPCI to the RollNET using a BNC ‘T’ connector and RG-62/u cable.
•
Ensure that 75 ohm BNC terminators are fitted at both ends-of-line.
2.3 RollNet
RollNet is SAM's variant of ArcNet. It is a token bus protocol. RollNet uses standard video
coaxial cables and connectors, and uses voltage levels that are compatible with video
signals. Therefore, no damage should occur if video and RollNet cables are accidentally
mis-connected.
RollNet is wired using 75ohm; video coaxial cable. Each device has a ‘T’ connector fitted to its
BNC connector. The ‘T’ connectors are joined using 75ohm; video coaxial cable. The two end
‘T’ connectors have a 75ohm; terminator fitted.
There are physical limitations on the number of units on a single coaxial cable run. Each
cable run can only have a maximum of 64 "Unit loads". Different units have different unit
loads:
Important:
Before starting the installation, ensure that the PC and any peripheral equipment is
switched off, and the power connections are removed.
Important:
Never attach a network coaxial cable directly to the RollPCI. Always use a BNC ‘T’
connector.
