AES Gas Evacuation System
Set-Up Instructions
After unpacking the gas evacuation system, inspect the canister and verify that the unit has not been damaged in transit.
The canister system is designed to mount on either the pole of your anesthesia machine or the wall. If mounting to a pole
remove the bolts, wrap around the pole and tighten down.
NOTE: You may need to use the spacers, which are provided, for smaller diameter poles. If mounting to a wall, simply remove the
screws and spread the brackets, four (4) self-tapping screws will be needed to put into the wall.
The AES comes standard with two inlet ports and one outlet port. This system can either be used with two anesthesia
machines or an anesthesia machine/ventilator combination
.
NOTE: If using the AES on two anesthesia machines be sure the anesthesia machines are no more than 10’ apart. If only using
one port, there is no need to cap the other inlet port.
All systems come standard with one set of standard hoses: an 18” hose and a 10’ hose. If mounted to the pole, connect the
short hose from the pop-off valve of the anesthesia machine to one of the yellow ports. Next, take the longer hose and
attach one end to the red port and the other end to a connection vented to the outside of your facility. A ½” PVC coupler/
adapter is provided to connect to ½” PVC pipe if PVC pipe has been used to run to the outside of your facility.
Plug the electrical cord into the grounded receptacle. Turn the unit on by using the bottom toggle switch. The power
light will illuminate and the AES is ready for use.
Upon completion of your surgical cases, let the AES continue running for approximately two minutes. This will allow the AES
to completely evacuate the house line. The AES is completely self - contained and requires no routine maintenance other
than occasional inspections of the electrical cord for any cuts or breaks, cleaning of the top vent port, and replacement of the
fuse if it blows during operation
.
NOTE: Fuse (0.5 amp 250 volt fuse) can be purchased at most hardware or electronics stores.

AES Installation Guide
The AES canister can be installed in different ways, pole or wall mount. Most customers use the AES mounted on the pole of
the anesthesia machine.
With either set up they can then run the evacuation hose up to a ceiling drop (Figure D) or to a wall outlet (Figure A). From
there a plumber should install PVC piping through the ceiling or attic to an outside wall, vent , or to a bathroom stack.
It is important to remember that the AES is both passive and active system. It is passive from the anesthesia machine to the
tank and then active from the tank to the outside. Therefore, the maximum distance from the anesthesia machine to the AES
is 20 feet (this is the most that an animal can push a breath) and the maximum distance from an AES to the outside is 150 feet
(this is the maximum that the fan can push the air/gas mixture). It is also important to remember that gas is heavier than air
so the AES should be installed to a pole or wall below the level of the pop-off valve.
