Overview
SMC’s TigerStack 10G SMC8724M and SMC8748M are intelligent Layer 2
switches with 24/48 10/100/1000BASE-T ports, four of which are
combination ports* that are shared with four SFP transceiver slots (see
Figure 1-1, Ports 21~24/45~48). On the rear panel there is an extender
module slot and two stacking ports. The extender module slot is not
currently functional. There is also an SNMP-based management agent
embedded on the main board. This agent supports both in-band and
out-of-band access for managing the switch.
These switches provide a broad range of powerful features for Layer 2
switching, delivering reliability and consistent performance for your
network traffic. They bring order to poorly performing networks by
segregating them into separate broadcast domains with IEEE 802.1Q
compliant VLANs, and empower multimedia applications with multicast
switching and CoS services.
* If an SFP transceiver is plugged in, the corresponding RJ-45 port is disabled
for ports 21~24 on SMC8724M or ports 45~48 on SMC8748M.
