Calibrating the depth measurement
In order to provide correct and accurate readings, the depth measurement must be calibrated.
The purpose of the
Calibration
dialog box is to accept and apply the calibration information
from the depth sensor calibration.
Prerequisites
In order to calibrate a measurement, you need a suitable rope.
Context
The sensor detects the depth using water pressure measurements. Calibration is made
automatically by readjusting this measurement against a known depth. In order to calibrate
the depth measurement, it must be submerged into salt water. The software provided for
calibration assumes that the sensor is lowered to your desired “0” (starting) point + 1m.
Procedure
1
Mount a rope to the top fastening lugs on the sensor.
2
Tighten the rope, and measure one meter from the lid of the sensor to a spot on the rope.
Place a visual marker on the rope at that location.
3
Lower the sensor over the side of the vessel and into the water until the visual marker
on the rope is even with the surface.
If you wish to use a depth reference different than the sea surface, change the marking
on the rope to fit your preference. You can also attach the sensor one meter under a
floating device. You must test this arrangement before you use it. Make sure that the
sensor lid (with the pressure detection device) is placed at one meter depth when the
unit is lowered into the water.
