Note:
In case the AIS number exceeds 95% of the limit maximal target number, the alert
indication
AIS capacity
is displayed. The default target number limit can be changed.
When the target number is over 95%, all close data is displayed, but data of some distant
targets can be lost.
Minimum part of the total capacity which may be activated AIS ship targets, Class A and
Class B is 40.
Minimum total capacity for all Class A (active and sleeping), Class B AIS (active and
sleeping), AIS AtoN, AIS Base Station, AIS-SART and SAR Aircraft is 240.
Broadcasted data
The AIS transponder broadcasts three different types of data to other AIS installations or base
stations:
•
Static ship data including Ship’s name, IMO number, call sign etc.
•
Voyage related data including Destination and ETA.
•
Dynamic data including position, heading and speed, ROT (Rate of Turn if available) etc.
Static ship and voyage related data is sent every 6 minutes.
The dynamic data sending rate depends on the ships speed. The dynamic data is sent every
5-10 seconds when the ship is making more than 3 knots but the delay is increased up to 3
minutes when the ship is making less than 3 knots.
Targets
AIS targets are displayed on the chart with a special symbol. On request the name of the
target (see
"Show and hide AIS target's name"
on page 147) and the past track (see
on page 147) can be displayed and the track can be saved (see
147) on the hard disk. All information about the selected target is displayed in the dialog
Properties of AIS target. Target list contains the list of targets currently being tracked (see
The prediction tool allows the user to display the future position of the targets (see
on page 144) and target associations lets to
adjust the target display (see
Lost targets
ECDIS manages both ARPA and AIS lost targets. If no position is received within 3 minutes, a
target is considered as lost and ECDIS displays the lost target on the chart with a special icon
(triangle with a cross line and no vector). Then if no data is received within the next 30
seconds, the target is deleted from the target table.
Own ship data
Voyage data
When ship’s static data received from AIS device is used in ECDIS900, it is displayed in the
Ship’s properties, AIS tab (see
A green icon displayed in front of the parameter means that ECDIS900 settings are the same
as the AIS settings for the selected parameter. If the icon is red, the parameter of AIS is
different from the parameter of ECDIS900.
