IMPORTANT SAFETY
WARNINGS
Radios marked with IECEx approval are suitable for use in
certain hazardous areas.
The Intrinsically Safe protection rating (ref. AS/NZS 60079) for
these radios is:
Ex ic IIA T4 (Approved for Zone 2, Gas Group IIA,
Temperature class T4)
The following MUST be observed to maintain the IECEx
protection rating:
Use only approved SIMOCO battery, part number PAR-
9180BATL2 or PAR9180BATL3.
Battery connection, disconnection, and charging must only be
carried out in non-hazardous areas.
Metal belt clips must
NOT
be used in hazardous areas.
When the radio is used in a hazardous area either the
SRP9180 Accessory Cover Assy (6102 350 1446) or an
approved Simoco IECEx accessory must be fitted.
Approved accessories may only be connected and
disconnected outside the hazardous area.
Refer to Operating Instructions for further IECEx warnings, and
lists of approved accessories.
GENERAL WARNINGS:
Do NOT
operate the radio if the antenna has become
disconnected or damaged.
Obey
the 'Turn Off Two-way Radios' signs where these are
posted, e.g. on a petrol station forecourt.
Do NOT
use or store the battery above +60 °C.
DISPLAY
Icon
Function
Indicates that the Keypad is locked. Press
OK Key for 2 seconds to unlock.
Solid Speaker Icon. Indicates that the radio is
receiving a valid signal, and audio can be
heard from the speaker.
Speaker Outline Icon. Indicates the radio is
receiving an invalid signal. The channel is
busy so user should not Tx.
Rotating Arrow. Indicates that the radio is
scanning a group of channels or trunked
system when in trunked mode.
Arrow Icon indicates that the radio is
transmitting.
Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI).
Associated bars show signal strength.
Encryption Indicator is shown if the channel
has been programmed for Encryption. Off for
a non-encrypted signal.
The asterisk symbol indicates whether the
radio has been “called” or is in the “on-call”
state.
Envelope icon. Indicates that a message(s)
stored if icon steady. Icon flashes if unread
message(s) stored.
Battery charge indicator. Six vertical bars
above the icon show’s the battery charge.
RX/TX LED
Green LED when receiving a signal.
Red LED when the radio is transmitting.

Turning the knob clockwise
increases volume.
