Lateral Transfer:
To facilitate a lateral/supine transfer connect the 12
straps, starting from the head moving down the body
towards the toes.
Ensure that each strap is securely fastened on to the lift
spreader bar.
Where possible, once lifted, consider repositioning the
bed by executing a lateral lift just above the bed then
repositioning the bed beneath the patient.
If positioning the bed is not an option use a slide sheet
inserted between the mattress and the repositioning
sheet for glide.
Attach the first 2 straps on both sides of the sheet to
the spreader bar (patient’s shoulders should be raised
slightly using the lift) allowing the carer givers to draw
the patient up the bed in a slow controlled action.
This procedure will help to assist the caregivers in
repositioning the patient higher up the bed.
Before executing the full transfer raise the patient a few
inches above the bed and check that the patient is not
experiencing any discomfort.
Check patient’s head position to ensure clear airways.
You may wish to leave the pillow in place within the
sheet. Check that all attachments are stable and fully
secured before transfer.
