6: Basic Troubleshooting and Chassis Service

Note:

If the GUI indicates a fan fault that is not one of the main system cooling fans (1-6),

then it cannot be swapped out. Power the server down and contact your service provider.

The fan identification number for each unit’s physical location is shown in

Figure 6-1

Tip:

It is possible for a malfunctioning “slow” fan to cause the

“Overheat/Fan Fail”

LED to

flash. For example, if fans one through five are turning at 5,000 RPM and fan six is turning
at 1,000 RPM, it is likely the slower fan is faulty. Replace the abnormally slow fan and the
fault should be corrected.
