The RLC as Fabric Manager

In some SGI ICE XA configurations the fabric management function is handled by the rack leader
controller (RLC) node. The RLC is an independent server that is not part of the blade enclosure
pair. See the “Rack Leader Controller” on page 33 subsection for more detail. The fabric
management software runs on one or two RLC nodes and monitors the function of and any
changes in the InfiniBand fabrics of the system. It is also possible to host the fabric management
function on a dedicated service node, thereby moving the fabric management function from the
