The following table describes causes and corrective actions for the example of linear

rotating valves, such as butterfly valves and ball valves. A rising characteristic curve and
bottom-up closing valves are assumed.

Error message
Causes/Corrective actions
Possible causes:
Actuator error
Valve fault, valve is stuck
Increased friction
Loss of compressed air
Check the valve condition immediately.
Error message disappears when the position is back in the predetermined range or the
function is deactivated.
"3.6.1 General fittings error" (Page 106)
Check the valve status promptly.
Control valve fault
Indicates a faulty valve.
Increased stiction. Valve no longer moves smoothly but with a jerky motion. Possible
causes: Overtightened stuffing box, contaminated valve spindle.
Check the condition of the stuffing box and valve spindle immediately.
Error message disappears if:
No more slip jumps are detected within a certain period.
The function is deactivated.
The thresholds are set lower or higher.
"3.6.2 Stiction" (Page 107)
Check the condition of the stuffing box and valve spindle promptly.
Stiction
Indicates a faulty stuffing box or valve spindle.
