Preparation
● Compare the type and version of the modules you are using with the information in the
document

● If replacement of the modules is required, contact your Siemens representative.
● A firmware update is possible for some modules. You will find the procedure in the section
"How to perform a firmware update of an IM (Page 40)" below.
Firmware update for interface modules or modules of bus links

Process
Control System PCS 7; Released Modules.
The firmware of most interface modules or bus link components released for use with PCS 7
can be updated via a firmware update:
Examples of these are:
● IM 152; IM153
● Y coupler
● Bus links:
– Y Link
– Bus link for PROFIBUS PA (DP/PA Link)
– Bus link for FOUNDATION Fieldbus
Note
With a redundant configuration, you can perform a firmware update during runtime.

How to perform a firmware update of an interface module (IM)
Introduction
This section provides a description of the update of the firmware for interface modules
(Interface Module (IM)) via Industrial Ethernet.
Requirements
The following is required to perform the update via Industrial Ethernet:
● STEP 7 V5.3 or higher is installed on the programming device or PC.
● The update file for the firmware update is available on the programming device / PC.
● Only for interface modules for PROFIBUS DP:
The CP 443-1 is routing-capable (check in HW Config: Properties of the CP > brief
description "Routing" is listed).
● The IM has been integrated in your PCS 7 project.
