Monitoring Wireless Signal Quality
The Freestyle has two methods of monitoring wireless signals:
■
Wireless Signal Quality meter
■
Average Noise Level indicator
Each is described in the following sections.
Wireless Signal Quality Meter
The signal meter has a total of six bars.

Wireless Signal Quality Meter; showing five different conditions
Number of Bars in the Wireless Signal
The number of bars in the wireless signal quality meter correlates to the potential of artifact
being introduced because of a weak signal.
Always monitor the number of bars displayed in the meter. See the following table for a
description of the conditions.
Wireless Signal Quality Meter Conditions
Number of Bars
Condition Expectations
4 to 6
The best signal quality. Expect a very reliable wireless probe performance without
noise being introduced because of wireless link quality
3
Very reliable wireless probe performance, this noise is typically imperceptible, but
there is a possibility of low levels of noise (artifacts) being introduced into the image
because of a compromised wireless probe link.
Reorient the probe/console to within 3 meters of each other, in a line-of-sight,
without obstructions between the probe and the console.
2 or 1
There is an increased possibility of noise (artifacts) being introduced to the image
because of a compromised wireless probe link. These artifacts may appear as
bright, streaky lines. See the image in “B-Mode Wireless Noise” on page 6-10.
Reorient the probe/console to within 3 meters of each other, in a line-of-sight,
without obstructions between the probe and the console.
0
The wireless signal has been lost, so the image screen is blank. A message
appears on the console screen informing you of this condition.
Reorient the probe/console to within 3 meters of each other, in a line-of-sight,
without obstructions between the probe and the console.
