CAUTION
Observing the safety laser scanner through optical instruments (such as magnifying
glasses, lenses, telescopes) may be hazardous for the eyes.
b
Do not look directly at the laser beam source using optical instruments.
2.2
Intended use
The safety laser scanner is an electro-sensitive protective device (ESPE) and is suitable
for the following applications:
•
Hazardous area protection
•
Mobile hazardous area protection (e.g. protection from automated guided vehi‐
cles)
The safety laser scanner is suitable for use in industrial environments (indoors and out‐
doors). The industrial area of application is an area that is inaccessible to the public
and that can only be entered by briefed adult personnel.
The safety laser scanner must only be used within the limits of the prescribed and
specified technical data and operating conditions at all times.
When operating outside the specified technical data, which also include ambient condi‐
tion, the detection capability of the device is not guaranteed.
If the device is to be used outside the application specified in this chapter, the machine
manufacturer must conduct an appropriate risk assessment. In this assessment, the
manufacturer must conduct a proper check of the extended application framework and
confirm the safety function with suitable tests.
When checking the extended application framework, the machine manufacturer must
ensure they conduct the following steps in particular:
•
Take into consideration the difference between the application stated explicitly in
this document and the actual operational purpose
•
Take into consideration application-specific standards, e.g. ISO 25119.
•
Conduct systematic analyses and consult appropriate standards, e.g. IEC 62998.
•
Conduct a systematic validation of the safety function.
Incorrect use, improper modification of or tampering with the safety laser scanner will
invalidate any warranty from SICK; in addition, any responsibility and liability of SICK for
damage and secondary damage caused by this is excluded.
2.3
Inappropriate use
DANGER
Hazard due to lack of effectiveness of the protective device
Persons and parts of the body to be protected may not be recognized in case of non-
observance.
The safety laser scanner works as an indirect protective measure and cannot provide
protection from pieces thrown from application nor from emitted radiation. Transparent
objects are not detected.
b
You must only use the safety laser scanner as an indirect protective measure.
The safety laser scanner is not suitable for the following applications, among others:
•
Underwater
•
In explosion-hazardous areas
•
Access protection and hazardous point protection (applications in which the angle
between access direction and scan plane exceeds 30°)
