
ON-OFF SWITCH
An on-off switch to control the microphone is easily
constructed as shown in Figure 6. (A commercial alternate
can be purchased: Switchcraft T3F, a 3-pin female profes-
sional audio connector with the switch incorporated. This
connector can be attached to the extension cable used to
connect the SM10A to the PA system.)

STEREO HEADPHONE USE
The SM10A microphone can be used as a boom micro-
phone with stereophonic headphones having provisions for
mounting boom microphones. These headphones are iden-
tified by a removable knurled knob or screw on the left head-
phone cup.
A kit containing a headphone adapter plate, cap nut, and
lockwasher is available without charge as Part No.

To mount the SM10A on a stereo headphone, remove
the retaining clip from the SM10A headband arm by remov-
ing the retaining clip screw. Mount the retaining clip on the
headphone adapter plate using the retaining clip screw and
supplied lockwasher and cap nut. Unscrew the removable
knob or screw from the stereo headphone cup. Position the
headphone adapter plate with the retaining clip downward,
and replace the knob or screw on the headphone cup (see
Figure 7). Snap the SM10A pivot housing into the retaining
clip, pivot adjustment knob upward, and place the
headphone-microphone assembly on the user’s head. Ad-
just the microphone position as described in step 4 of the As-
sembly procedure.
ARCHITECTS’ SPECIFICATIONS
The microphone shall be the Shure Model SM10A or
equivalent. The microphone shall be a moving-coil (dynam-
ic) type with a frequency response of 50 to 15,000 Hz. The
unit shall have a cardioid polar characteristic. The cancella-
tion at the rear shall be 15 to 20 dB. The microphone shall
be low impedance with a rated impedance of 150 ohms for
connection to microphone inputs rated at 19 to 300 ohms.
The microphone output shall be –66.0 dB where 0 dB = 1 mil-
liWatt per 10 microbars.The microphone shall be a head-
worn type, and shall be provided with a 1.5 m (5 ft), non-de-
tachable, two-conductor, shielded cable with a professional,
three-pin, audio connector designed to mate with Cannon
XL series, Switchcraft A3 (Q.G.) series or equivalent
connectors. The microphone shall also be provided with a
headband, connector belt clip, and foam windscreen.The
overall dimensions of the microphone shall be 203 mm (8 in.)
in length and 44.5 mm (1-
