THE SOLUTION
Jack will not lift.
high enough.
1. Check the oil level, see 4.3. above.
2. After several years of use the seals may be worn, replace using a recommended repair kit.
3. The load is too heavy for the jack.
1. Insufficient oil level.
2. Seals worn.
3. Safety overload valve activated.
Jack will not lift.
1. Release valve not fully seated.
1. Tap the end of the release rod (Item No. 10) with a light hammer to reseat ball.
1. Check that clearance between inner release rod nut (Item No. 18) and release arm (Item No. 21) is
0.5 to 1.5 mm. Loosen lock nut and adjust as necessary.
3.2.4
Deviations either side of 90° will exert additional stress on the lifting arm, which is dangerous.
NOTE:
When positioning the jack to lift larger vehicles, remember that space will be required to operate the handle. DO NOT have
the jack too far under the vehicle.
3.2.5
Pump the handle up and down using maximum strokes so that the saddle quickly reaches the working height. Alternatively, the foot
pedal may be used for the same purpose.
NOTE:
The 8000SL model is supplied with a standard saddle and an extension saddle which increases the effective lifting range of
the jack.
3.2.6
Should the jack become overloaded, a safety excess pressure valve will open and stop the vehicle from lifting.
3.3
Weight Distribution
3.3.1
Up to 80% of the lifted load is carried by the jack’s front wheels placing exceptional stress on the point of contact with the floor. To protect
the floor, boards may be placed beneath the jack wheels.
3.4
Lowering the Load
3.4.1
Rotate the handle clockwise to lower the jack.
3.4.2
The lowering speed is controlled by the amount the handle is turned. Lower carefully and slowly, avoiding any sudden changes in
lowering speed, which would shock load the jack’s hydraulic system.
3.4.3
Ensure that there are no persons or obstacles beneath the vehicle, or in the path of its descent.
3.5
Safety Reminders
3.5.1
Before lifting, ensure that the vehicle is clear of passengers.
3.5.2
Ensure that the transmission is in gear, or ‘Park’ for automatic transmission, and the handbrake is engaged.
3.5.3
Ensure that the vehicle is positioned on a hard, level surface with the wheels securely chocked to prevent it from moving.
3.5.4
Ensure that the jack wheels are free and able to move during lifting.
3.5.5
Ensure that you have consulted the vehicle handbook to confirm the position of jacking points.
3.5.6
Ensure that any trailer, farm equipment etc., coupled to the vehicle to be lifted, has been removed and placed in a safe location.
3.5.7
Ensure that axle stands are available for use when the vehicle is elevated.
NOTE: Only fully qualified personnel should attempt maintenance or repair on the jack.
4.1
When the jack is not in use, the ram should be in the lowest position.
4.2
Remove the handle to de-activate the jack.
4.3
To check the oil level, fully lower the jack. Remove the top cover and unscrew the filler plug. The correct oil level is approximately
10mm below the filler opening. If the oil level is low, fill as required.
NOTE: Use a good quality jack oil, such as Sealey Hydraulic Jack Oil.
WARNING: DO NOT use brake fluid, or any fluid other than hydraulic jack fluid as this may cause serious damage to the jack and will
invalidate the warranty.
4.4
Every three months, remove the circlips on the caster wheels and lubricate the ball bearings with grease.
4.5
After a year of extensive use, the oil should be replaced in order to extend the life of the jack.
4.6
Periodically check the pump piston and piston rod for signs of corrosion. Clean exposed areas with a clean oiled cloth.
De-commissioning
If the jack becomes completely unserviceable, drain the oil into an approved container and dispose of the jack and the oil according to national and
local regulations.
