Reducing the risk of Oedema / Hemoptysis
m
WARNING!
This manual is not a scientific text and is no replacement for adequate training!
Hemoptysis is technically “the emission of blood from the respiratory tracts”, and when freediving this typically indicates the presence of
a pulmonary oedema. During a freedive, hemoptysis is typically caused by a rupture of capillaries in the lungs that have been subjected
to too much stress without having first performed the appropriate warmups.
To reduce the risk of pulmonary oedema, JACK recommends which dives to take first in order to “warm up” the capillaries in the lungs
depending on the depth you want to reach, or the “comfort” depth (depth you can reach without special effort).
To activate the oedema/hemoptysis risk reduction function, set the desired depth in the OEDEMA item in the FREE SET menu. In the
following example, the OEDEMA value is set to 35.
The first three “warm up” dives are not counted when calculating the session averages.
Do not exceed 8 m in depth
Do not exceed 16 m in depth
Do not exceed 24 m in depth
