Operating the Boom
Controlling the Boom
There are two speed modes to operate. Rabbit allows
full speed of the boom and Snail is reduced to half
speed. When neither Rabbit or Snail is
selected, the boom will be disabled. A
BOOM LED indicator on the transmit-
ter will illuminate when either Rabbit or
Snail is selected and one or more joy-
stick is active.
1.
Start by raising boom section #1 first.
2. Extend the remaining sections in sequence 2, 3
and then 4.
3. Use the right-hand joystick to slew the placing
boom back and forth. The slewing motion is re-
stricted by the limit switch. When the boom has
reached it’s slewing limit, a warning horn will sound
and the placing boom will stop moving.

Release the tip hose
When the boom is positioned appropriately, release the
tip hose. Do not stand under the tip hose while you re-
lease it. Look down for anything that might be damaged
when the end of the hose falls to the ground (Figure 36).

Releasing the tip hose
Inspecting the tip hose
Inspect the condition of the rubber tip hose each time
you are near it. Do not use the hose if either of the raised
ends are worn or if the rubber is movable inside of the
steel sleeve. Because this tip hose may see the max-
imum possible concrete pressure that the pump can
generate, it is imperative that the hose is able to handle
that pressure. The tip hose that is supplied by Schwing
is rated to handle the pressure of the pump when it is
new, but the pressure rating must be lowered as wear
dictates. When the original tip hose is worn out, replace
it with a tip hose of like pressure rating and type of ends.
Do not use the hose if the steel braids are showing in-
side or out. If there are small pieces of braid showing
through on the outside, it could pose a puncture hazard
to the hose person or anyone who touches it.
The clamp and rubber gasket on the tip hose (and all
system) must be in like new condition and should be
free of old concrete build up, as should the elbow at the
end of the tip section. The raised end must be free of
concrete. Check this on a daily basis. Be sure that the
pin that keeps the clamp closed is in place and in good
condition. The safety cable that is bolted to the end of
the boom must be secured to the tip hose on the sup-
plied ring. Remember, this hose will be hanging over
workers. Be absolutely certain that all components are
safely attached and in excellent shape.
