Instruction Manual of JTY-GD-S839 Point-type Photoelectric Smoke Detector

Read through these instructions before using this device to ensure correct installation and use!

I. General

JTY-GD-S839 point-type photoelectric smoke detector is a two-wire switch-type smoke detector. As a

non-polar two-wire connection is adopted in the detector, it is compatible in conventional switch-type alarm
control systems and monitoring alarm systems. The smoke detector can also be connected with automatic fire
alarm control systems via the interface module. The detector monitors smoke concentration in the workplace in
real time. While monitoring, the red indicator blinks and the working current is low. When the work site smoke
concentration has exceeded the preset alarm threshold, the detector is alarming and the red indicator remain on,
while the loop current is increased. The detector’s alarm signal can be locked and is displayed by changes in the
loop current. The alarm can only be reset by the instant power disconnection. The sensor has an automatic
compensation function against dust accumulation and can reduce the effect of dust on the sensitivity of the sensor.

The smoke detector is applicable in places where fire might generate volume smoke, i.e. in industrial and civil

buildings such as in the restaurant, hotel, teaching building, office building, computer room, archives and stack
room. The smoke detector is not applicable in places, i.e. there is dust, aggressive gas, inflammable gas, oil mist,
vapor, or salinity etc in the environment.

III.  Installation and commissioning

Determine the location, mounting distance and numbers for mounting the smoke detectors in the protection area

in accordance to the relevant stipulations of GB50116-98.

A base shown in figure 2 is required for mounting the smoke detector; its exterior size is 75mm×51mm×5mm

(L×W×H), the size of the fixing hole is 5mm×10mm and the distance between the holes is 52mm~66mm.

The smoke detector connects with the controller via a non-polar two wires, the wiring port is a power input
terminal.
For connecting smoke detectors, see figure 3.

Multiple sensors can be used within the same alarm circuit through parallel connection, as shown in

figure 4.

Details of the installation and commissioning are as following

1.

Installed base can be used as follows

a)

Prepare the shop drawing and fix the auxiliary base onto the defined location with two M4 bolts
installed through the two fixing holes (A

B shown in figure 2).

b)

Magnet install into designated A, B fixed hole as shown in figure 2 , after the base and

c)

the detector assembly, adsorbed detector on the metal cabinet or rack through the magnet;

d)

According to the shop drawing, use a drill to bore two

Φ

6mm holes onto defined location, then put

two expandable plastic stoppers into the holes separately, fix the auxiliary base onto the defined
location with two ST3.5×20mm tapping screws installed through the two fixing holes (A & B
shown as below figure).

2.

Disconnect the power, connect all bases correctly as per the shop drawing, and then connect the
controllers to the corresponding input ports.

3.

Make sure that all smoke detectors types correspond with the ones noted in the shop drawing.

4.

To be installed and disassembled the smoke detector, as shown in figure 5 and figure 6.

5.

Don’t power on the controller until all smoke detectors have been mounted correctly; to confirm correct,
connect detector power supply. First, the red indicator blinks by 1 second frequency, and then enter the
normal state to monitor every 3 ~ 8 seconds blinks once, indicating that detectors have begun working;

6.

Alarm test of the detector is performed by special tool or puffing smoke directly. The red indicator
remains on after the detector alarms. After testing reset the detector to monitoring state.

IV.   Precautions for engineering installation

1.

Check that the sensor type matches that indicated in the construction drawing.

2.

Calculation of protection area and installation quantity of sensors. The protection area is about 60m

2

when the space height is 6~12m; The protection area is about 40m

2

when the space height is below 6m.

3.    The protective cover attached to the sensor is shown in figure 7. During onsite installation before use, do

not remove the cover to prevent the sensor from being contaminated.

4.    When the sensors are used in parallel, ensure that when multiple sensors are energized at the same time,

the maximum power current does not exceed the alarm current threshold detected by the main machine,
and it is suggested that the connection quantity be less than 5.

5.  The sensor installation shall comply with relevant stipulations in the national standards GB50116-98

“Code for design of automatic fire alarm system” and GB50166-2007 “Code for installation and
acceptance of fire alarm system”, for example, the horizontal distance from the sensor to the wall-beam
edge shall be no less than 0.5m; there shall be no materials within 0.5m around the sensor; the
horizontal distance from the sensor to the edge of the AHU air inlet shall be no less than 1.5m, and that
to the opening of the perforated air supply ceiling shall be no less than 0.5m, etc.

6.    When the sensor is installed within the cabinet, there shall be certain clearance between the sensor and

the inner wall of the cabinet, and there shall be no materials within 0.2m around the sensor, as shown
in figure 9.

7.    The smoke sensor shall not be mounted above an electric heater or heat radiation fan or within the air

duct or air chamber, since dust and condensation are easily generated at such places, leading to an
error reporting of the sensor.

8 .    When the smoke sensor is mounted in the room with air supply and air return ducts, such sensor shall

be mounted on the path through which the airflow goes towards the air return duct, as shown in figure
11.

Fig.8

Fig.10

Fig.11

Fig.9

9

When the smoke sensor must be mounted near an air inlet, a certain distance must be kept, as shown in

figure 12. Correct installation position may enable the sensor to fast and accurately detect a fire.
Incorrect installation position may cause the sensor to be slow to alarm or even issue a false alarm due
to the interference of the high-speed air flow from the air duct.

10

The wiring of the smoke sensor shall meet relevant electric design codes in the national standard

GB50116-98 “Code for design of automatic fire alarm system”, for example, the lines for fire control,
communication and alarm shall be protected with metal pipes and hidden within non-combustible
structures; lines of different systems, different voltages or different currents may not be laid within one
pipe or the same slotted hole; the cable shaft of light current circuit and that of heavy current circuit
shall be arranged separately. If they must be used together due to condition limitations, the light current
circuit and the heavy current circuit shall be respectively arranged at both sides of the shaft, etc.

V.  Maintenance

1.

In according to the GB50166-2007, smoke detectors shall be tested every 6 months; for smoke detectors
that have been mounted and are working, biennial cleaning and maintaining is recommended.

2.

The working environment greatly influences the serviceability of the smoke detector; when the smoke
detector is mounted in a dust prone area or in high speed wind environment, the detector maintenance
shall be done in shorter intervals.

3.

Failed smoke detectors caused by material or defected processes will be repaired or replaced within one
year from the date delivered from this factory; as long as they were used for the designed purpose. Our
warranty excludes smoke detector failure caused by intentional damages; misuse, unauthorized
adjustments, modifying or disassembling and we are not responsible for any consequences caused by
above behaviors.
