INTRODUCTION

Featuring abundant storage capacity, operator provisioning capabilities and independent processing
power, the SanDisk 1GB SIM 5000 card empowers mobile network operators (MNOs) to manage critical
network resources securely and efficiently.

MNOs are always looking to maintain more control over increasingly complex
resources. With the SIM 5000, MNOs can manage their mobile resources in a
cost-effective and secure manner. Enabling resource management and a range
of other mobile applications, the SIM 5000 provides the capacity and security
required by MNOs and their subscribers. Thanks to the card's resource
management capabilities, MNOs can significantly reduce customer support
expenses, enhance user experience and conserve network management
resources.

NETWORK

SERVICE

ASSURANCE

Current cellular network complexity makes it difficult for MNOs to collect, aggregate and correlate network
performance data measurements. This results in dropped or blocked calls, low voice quality and poor
service performance. With 3G, 3.5G and converged networks (e.g. 3/3.5G, Wi-Fi, fixed) increasing their
penetration, such problems are only expected to rise. Leveraging a non-intrusive, personal megaSIM-
based Java card applet developed by BroadSense, the SIM 5000 enables MNOs to gather unlimited
network service performance data—in both real-time or offline—from individual subscriber handsets. The
collection of offline data leads to efficient network resource usage and wide service deployment, since
such information is transmitted to the MNO only when required. In addition, each handset becomes a
potential test point, reflecting user experience in real time. With call-drop monitoring and non-intrusive real-
time capabilities, the application allows MNOs to view individual subscriber service degradation, and
proactively optimize network performance. This, in turn, leads to higher ARPU, lower operational and
capital expenditures, and greater customer satisfaction.

HANDSET

PERSONALIZATION

AND

BRANDING

New handsets that subscribers bring to an MNO's network from a competing network or retail store are not
preloaded with the operator's preferred configuration, unique applications or branded messaging.
Subscribers can even inadvertently change operators' original configuration settings, menus and
messaging—causing potentially serious negative effects on support costs and subscriber satisfaction. With
original configuration and branding files preinstalled on the SIM 5000 via SNAPin SelfService Configure
software, MNOs can either enable new handsets to be configured automatically through "power on," or
allow subscribers to select the operator's default branding and configuration. Following initial configuration,
applications and settings can be kept up-to-date automatically by SelfService’s OTA capabilities. The
application also allows MNOs to promote new content and services via configuration profiles, such as pre-
installed favorites.
