Engagement, Damage & Malfunction
If a latch becomes inoperative because of wear or deformation, and is required for the
service involved, it shall be replaced or repaired before the hook is put back into service. If
the latch fails to fully close the throat opening, the hook shall be removed from service or
“moused” until repairs are made.

HOOK ATTACHMENTS & SECURING MEANS
If any indication of distortion, wear, cracks, nicks or gouges are present, unless a qualified
person authorizes their use. (Or as recommended by the manufacturer).
Holding Valve Inspection
The cylinders are equipped with holding valves that prevent sudden movement of the cylinder
rods in the event of a hydraulic hose or other hydraulic component failure. The valve is checked
in the following manner:
1
With a full rated load, extend the cylinder in question and kill the engine.
2
Operate the control valve to retract the cylinder. If the cylinder “creeps”, replace the holding
valve. If the cylinder does not “creep”, the valve is serviceable.
