CORRECTION OF TUFTING PROBLEM ________________________________________
1.
Check tires for proper inflation: 12 psi (83 kPa).
2.
Reduce engine speed.
3.
Reduce hole spacing: 1–3/4” to 2–1/4” (44–57 mm).
4.
Cut back or reduce watering of greens before
aerating.
5.
Use shorter tines.
6.
Adjust aerator ram timing for reduced tufting. See
Section 6.12 on page 25.
7.
Check spacing control adjustment. See Section 4.6
on page 11.
8.
Check gear backlash in reversing gearbox. See
Section 4.7 on page 11.
6.10 HOLE SPACING INCONSISTENT _____________________________________________
1.
Linkage binding.
2.
Operator is putting too much pressure on spacing
control rod.
6.11 ENGINE WILL NOT START __________________________________________________
1.
Check to see if direction/speed pedal is in the neutral
position and interlock system is working.
2.
Refer to engine manual.
6.12 AERATOR RAM TIMING FOR REDUCED TUFTING _______________________________
When aerating greens under certain conditions, as the
unit moves forward, the holes may appear elongated with
an angular tear or tuft toward the front of the hole.
Usually tufting will be more severe on the holes produced
by outer tine rams. This type of tufting is caused by the
unit swaying from side to side, which is caused by the
reciprocating masses and the forces produced when
making holes in the turf.
Changing the ram timing of the unit will improve hole
quality, but the ride generally will be rougher.
If ride quality is more important to you, or you do not have
trouble with tufting, you may choose to not change the
timing of the GA–30.
To determine how your GA–30 is timed, see the following
sections. Section 6.14 on page 27 shows timing for
REDUCED TUFTING (greens aeration), Section 6.13 on
page 26 shows timing for SMOOTHER RIDE (fairway
aeration).
