the unit will switch automatically to loudspeaker Monitor mode. Press VOL to boost level,
press again to reduce. In Talk mode 2-way hands-free speech is selected when the loud-

environment, for certain tests and when you require loudspeaker listening.
Remember:
Press MUTE again when you wish to speak. The loudspeaker will switch

Using hands-free effectively
UTS-3 does not clip the beginning of words, it switches silently and it adapts to the ambi-
ent noise level - so there is no need for adjustment. For best results stay close to the
microphone (at the bottom of the keypad) and use volume boost only if the level is too
low. Use UTS-3 with the mike and loudspeaker facing you.
Note: Continuous sounds from the line will be silenced after a short period so when
dialling, dial tone may be heard only briefly.
Polarity test/ground-start operation
To test polarity, connect to the line to be tested. Press the polarity, POL, button and
observe the LED’s (see figure 1).
Red
LED = Red line cord connection to Tip (+ve)
Green LED = Red line cord connection to Ring (-ve)
For ground start operation you must first conduct a polarity test to identify the tip wire of
the UTS line-cord, connect to line then connect a temporary wire from the Tip to ground.
Press TALK and listen for dial-tone. When dial-tone is heard, disconnect the ground wire.
Dial as normal.
