Hardware Overview
This chapter provides a general overview of the DSS-8224 components, supported rear modules, and cabling
designations.

Wait 30 seconds after the last setting change to ensure all changes are saved to the non-volatile memory of the
card.
Card Overview
This section provides a general overview of the DSS-8224 components.

1. Board Mode Jumper (JP1)
Use
JP1
in conjunction with
JP3
to configure the DSS-8224 as a Master or Slave card. One RCM-8120 can
control up to ten cards by using one Master and nine Slave cards. The communication between the RCM-8120
and the card is controlled by the DSS-8224 that is configured as the Master card.
2. HD Type Jumper (JP2)
Use
JP2
to enable the DSS-8224 to automatically detect the input type, SD or HD, and switch on the appropriate
switching line as defined by SMPTE RP-168-2002. However, the specific HD format cannot be detected
automatically.
JP2
allows you to select the HD input format to determine the correct switching line for HD.
3. Control Jumper (JP3)
Use
JP3
to select the type of input control that is connect to the card on BNC 7 and BNC 8.
4. Xpoint Mode Jumper (JP4)
Use
JP4
to select the control mode of the DSS-8224.
5. Panel Type Jumper (JP5)
Use
JP5
in conjunction with
JP3
to select the type of RCM-810 remote control module connected to the
DSS-8224.
6. Reference Select Jumper (JP6)
Use
JP6
to select the frame reference used on the DSS-8224.
