Third-Party Protocols
This chapter summarizes how the NWE-IP implements third-party protocols.
Ember+ Support
NWE-IP implements BESS v1.2 for Ember+ support to communicate with third-party controllers.
Keep the following in mind when setting up an Ember+ connection with NWE-IP:
• Ensure that all network streams have a consistent audio channel count.
• Audio shuffling is not supported in Ember+ setups.
• NWE-IP supports one-to-many connections (where one source can be routed to multiple targets).
Audio Channel Mapping for Ember+
Ember+ controls up to 16 Receiver and Senders Group, each carrying a single independent Audio session. Audio
streams can be setup for redundancy using DashBoard. SDP for each Audio channel contains information for all the
streams for that Source. In other words, each Group has 1-to-1 mapping with Audio sessions.
AES67 Transmitters
Ember+ transmitters are labeled as Senders in DashBoard.
The Sender configuration must first be created in DashBoard to show up in the Ember+ tree under Transmitters. If a
Sender Session is not configured in DashBoard, then these Audio sub-groups will contain empty SDP descriptors
and any attempt to make a connection will be ignored. If a Sender is created without following the channel mapping
configuration, the Ember+ tree contents will not be correct. In
, the Transmitters > Audio 1 > SDP node
represents the first session that maps to audio channels 1 to 16 of the configured AES67 Sender on the NWE-IP.

AES67 Receivers
The NWE-IP supports up to 16 Groups with one Audio session (Audio 1) per Group. Because DashBoard
configuration allows for flexible channel mappings, this should be configured prior to making connections with
, the Receivers > Group > Audio 1 > SDP corresponds to the first Group and the first (and
only) Session.
