The
secondary draft control
lever regulates the amount of air that is needed to reburn exhaust gases that are produced in
the fireplace during the wood burning process. A portion of this secondary air circulates from the top to the door and helps
to keep the glass window clean.
The fire intensity can be regulated with the secondary draft control lever.
Creosote - Formation and Nee d for Removal - When wood is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic
vapors,
which combine with expelled moisture to form creosote. The creosote vapors condense in the relatively cool chimney flue
of a slow-burning fire. As a result, creosote re sidue accumulates on the flue lining. If ignited, this creosote creates an e x-
tremely hot fire. Burning wood, the chimney connector and chimney should be i nspected at least once every two months
during the heating season to determine if a creosote buildup has occurred.
