4.3 Climbing with Rope Grab
* To ascend with a F-5 Rope grab climb up the ladder normally. The
detachable rope grab will follow the user.
* Use caution when climbing. Avoid carrying tools or equipment that do not
allow your hands to be free for climbing. Ensure that the carried items are
secured to avoid dropping on climbers below.
* Climb within your ability. Long climbs may require several rest breaks
during ascent or descent to avoid exhaustion.
* Avoid climbing in high winds or severe weather conditions whenever possible.
* To descend, climb down properly in a normal position.
* Allow the detachable rope grab to lead the user down.
* Climbing down out of position (leaning back excessively) will cause the
detachable rope grab to lock on the cable. If the detachable rope grab locks,
move upward slightly to release, then continue down the ladder.
* When climbing is completed and the user is in a safe location remove the
carabiner from rope grab and remove the rope grab from the lifeline.
4.4 Fall Clearance
* For equipment intended to use in fall arrest systems, it is essential for
safety to verify the free space required beneath the user at the workplace
before each occasion of use, so that, in the case of a fall, there will be no
collision with the ground or the other obstacle in the fall path.
* A minimum 2-meter of fall clearance is required between the user’s
feet and surface below. The user may not be protected against hitting
the ground or landing during the first 2 meters of ascent or 2 meters of
descent.

* Use proper climbing procedures (e.g., maintain 3 points of contact with
hands and feet) when ascending or descending any portion of the ladder
unprotected by the system.
4.5 Work Positioning
* Rope Grab shall not be used as work positioning purpose.
* If the work positioning is required on the system, additional relevant
equipment needs to be used such as WPL Work Positioning Lanyard.
* There are hazards associated with connecting and disconnecting from
the system. Use secondary fall arrest protection. Ensure adequate anchor
points, landing platforms, or other means are available at connection and
disconnection points to allow safe transitions to and from the system.
* Identify hazards in the work area that can cause injury to the user or damage
to the system, such as: high heat, electrical hazards, chemical hazards, falling
objects, or moving machinery.
5 General Information on the EN 365 Standard
5.1 Rescue Plan
There must be a rescue plan that is to be applied in case of emergency which
can occur during working at height. Adequately trained personnel and rescue
equipment must be opresent for rescue.
5.2 Anchorage Point
Anchorage point or the system should always be secured at a point above the
user; it should have a minimum 12 kN strength and should be in accordance
with EN 795 standard.
5.3 General Warnings
* Compatibility of different fall protection equipment must be considered as
it can result in a dangerous situation.
* A vertical lifeline and and fall arrester is intended for use as a component in
a personal fall arrest system.
* The user must be medically fit to use the equipment.
* Sufficient free space is required beneath the user at the workplace and user
must check before each occasion of use, so that, in the case of a fall, there will
be no collision with the ground or the other obstacle in the fall path.
6. Check and Validation
6.1 Before Each Use
All components of the Vertical Lifeline should be inspected by an authorized
person or rescuer prior to each use. Additionally, annual inspections should
be carried out by a manufacturer authorized “competent person” other than
the user. Findings should be recorded in the “Inspection and Maintenance
Log”. Inspection must be performed based on following criterias;
* All markings must be legible and attached to the product.
* All equipment must be free of corrosion, chemical attack, alteration,
excessive heating or wear.
* All hardware should be free of cracks, sharp edges, deformation,
corrosion, or any evidence of defect or damage to.
* Cable must be inspected for kinks, broken strands, corrosion, abrasion,
or other signs of wear and damage.
* Energy absorber in line should be functional.
6.2 During Each Use
During performing the work at height if the equipment is connected with
another system, make sure that all pieces of equipment in the system are
correctly positioned and compatible with each other.
7. General Information
7.1 Lifespan
* There is no theoretical lifespan of metal components. Products must be
documented by at least one time per year to determine if the product is safe
to use. Kaya Safety is not responsible for the use of the product that has no
annual periodic control.
* Vertical Lifeline System is made of galvanized steel and stainless steel.
Check material specifications for further detail.
* Galvanized steel is highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion. Please refer
to the manufacturer or authorized dealer for more information.
Regarding the corrosion occurring on the material depending on the area
of the use. In all circumstances decision to continue to use the product can
only be made if annual periodic control has been performed and resulted
positive by manufacturer or a competent person authorized
by the manufacturer. If the product has one of the deviations below it should
be withdrawn from service immediately and should be destroyed to prevent
further usage.
* Stainless steel is highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion. Depending on
the area of the use superficial rust spots can be seen on the product (The
period may shorten in industrial sites; iron powders and welding pieces.)

* It has suffered a heavy shock load or a load dropped onto it.
* If any signs of corrosion on the product is observed.
* if product was recorded not suitable for use during a control and if you have
any doubt about that.
* Changes in standards, legislation and changes related to technical use of it,
and similar cases.
7.2 Storage
Product comes with its own special case and user manual where the model
number and applicable standard is written. Product should be stored in its
case in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and at room temperature. Do
not store in areas where damage from environmental factors such as heat,
light, excessive moisture, oil, chemicals and their vapors, or other degrading
elements may be present.
7.3 Maintenance
Taking good care of the product after each use extends the life of it. Use metal

7.4 Changes and Repair
Changing a part, repair and addition to any component of the system is strictly
forbidden without written authorization of KAYA. Any repairs on products
can only be done by manufacturer or qualified persons authorized by the
manufacturer. All repair and maintenance work must only be carried out in
accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. KAYA won’t be responsible for
repairs performed by for unauthorized persons.Manufacturer’s instructions
for repair and maintenance can be obtained from authorized distributor in the
official language of the country in which the item is in service. Please contact
authorized distributor in your country.
7.5 Transportation of Product
The product should be transported in a case to keep it away from moisture,
chemicals and sharp edges as well as to protect it getting in contact with
another objects.
7.6 Periodic Inspection of Product
Product must be inspected at least (12 months) once a year by manufacturer
or a competent person authorized by manufacturer. The maintanence
