SECTION 3: CLEARANCES TO COMBUSTIBLES
3.1 Re q uired Clearances to Combustibles
Clearances are the req u ired distances that comb u sti-
ble objects m u st be a w ay from the heater to pre v ent
serio u s fire hazards. Comb u stibles are materials that
may catch on fire and incl u de common items s u ch as
w ood, paper, r u bber, fabric, etc. Maintain clear-
ances to combustibles at all times for safety.
Clearances for all heater models are located on the
b
u rner of the heater and on Page 5, Figure 3 through
Page 8, Figure 12 in this man u al. Check the clear-
ances on each b u rner for the model heater being
installed to make s u re the prod u ct is s u itable for yo u r
application and the clearances are maintained. Read
and follo
w the safety g u idelines belo w :
• Keep gasoline or other comb u stible materials
incl u ding flammable objects, liq u ids, d u st or
v apors a w ay from this heater or any other appli-
ance.
• The stated clearances to comb u stibles represents
a s u rface temperat u re of 90° F (32°C) abo v e room
temperat u re. B u ilding materials w ith a lo w heat tol-
erance (s u ch as plastics, v inyl siding, can v as, tri-
ply, etc) may be s u bject to degradation at lo w er
temperat u res. It is the installer’s responsibility to
ass u re that adjacent materials are protected from
degradation.
• Maintain clearances from heat sensiti v e
eq u ipment and w orkstations.
• Maintain clearances from v ehicles parked belo w
the heater.
• Maintain clearances from s w inging and o v erhead
doors, o v erhead cranes, v ehicle lifts, partitions,
storage racks, hoists, b u ilding constr u ction, etc.
• In locations u sed for the storage of comb u stible
materials, signs m u st be posted to specify the
maxim u m permissible stacking height to maintain
req u ired clearances from the heater to the com-
b u stibles. Signs m u st be posted adjacent to the
heater thermostat. In the absence of a thermostat,
signs m
u st be posted in a conspic u o u s
location.
• Cons u lt local Fire Marshal, Fire Ins u rance Carrier
or other a u thorities for appro v al of proposed instal-
lation w hen there is a possibility of expos u re to
comb u stible airborne materials or v apors.
• Hang heater in accordance to the minim u m s u s-
pension req u irements on Page 16, Figure 15 .
• If the radiant t u bes m u st pass thro u gh the b u ilding
str u ct u re, be s u re that adeq u ate slee v ing and fire
stop is installed to pre v ent scorching and/or fire
hazard.
NOTE: 1. All dimensions are from the s u rfaces of all t u bes, co u plings and elbo w s.
2. Clearances B, C and D can be red u ced by 50% after 25' (7.5 m) of t u bing do w nstream
from w here the b u rner and b u rner t u be connect.
WARNING
Fire Hazard
Keep all flammable objects, liquids and
vapors the minimum required clearances to
combustibles away from heater.
Some objects will catch fire or explode when
placed close to heater.
Failure to follow these instructions can result
in death, injury or property damage.
