FOR INSTALLATIONS IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
California Law requires that residential water heaters must be braced, anchored or strapped to resist falling
or horizontal displacement due to earthquake motions. For residential water heaters up to 52 gallon ca-
pacity, a brochure with generic earthquake bracing instructions can be obtained from:

or, ask a water heater dealer. However, applicable Local Codes shall govern installations. (For residential
water heaters of capacity greater than 52 gallons, consult the local building jurisdiction for acceptable brac-
ing installations)

For increased energy efficiency, certain water heater models covered by this Use & Care Manual have been
supplied with two (2) 24” sections of pipe insulation. Should the model being employed in your particular
installation include the pipe insulation, please install the insulation as shown below for the type of installation
configuration that best matches yours.

Supplemental Instructions
