Operation
a) Inserting SSDs into the docking station
Ensure suitable protective measures are taken against static charge (e.g. ground
strap, non-conductive pad, etc.) when touching or inserting in the SSD modules.
Only grasp the SSD modules on the side of the circuit board, do not touch the
components on the circuit board. Electrostatic discharges can destroy the SSDs.
Inserting an SSD
• Grasp the first SSD on the side by the edges of the circuit board and align it so that the notch
(M key) in the terminal strip of the SSD matches the corresponding spot on the base of the
docking station.
An M.2 NVMe SSD with PCIe 4x (occasionally also PCIe 2x) usually has one notch
(M key).
If your NVMe PCIe SSD has 2 notches, it is probably a version with PCIe 2x.
Important! SSDs with 2 notches (M+B key) that support the SATA protocol are not
compatible with the docking station and must not be used. They can damage the
docking station.
• Carefully insert the SSD into one of the two ports. Do not use force! Make sure that the SSD
is seated correctly and straight in the slot.
In order to clone your SSD using the docking station, make sure to insert the SSD
you want to copy into the left Slot A (“Source HDD1”) and the target SSD into the
right Slot B (“Target HDD2”).
When using a computer, it does not matter which slot you use.
Removing an SSD
• Before you remove an SSD from the docking station, be sure to first disconnect the docking
station from the power supply and the data connection to the computer.
• Always grasp the SSD by the edges of the circuit board and carefully pull the SSD out.
b) Connecting the docking station to a computer
Either one SSD or two SSDs at once can be connected to a computer. Two SSDs
are recognised by the computer as two separate drives.
If you only want to connect one SSD to the computer, it doesn‘t matter which of the
two slots you choose.
• Connect one end of the included USB-C
TM
cable (USB-C
TM
to USB-C
TM
) to the USB-C
TM
connector F (“PC”) of the docking station and the other end to a free USB-C
TM
port of your
computer.
• Connect one end of the other included USB cable (USB-A to USB-C
TM
) to the second USB-C
TM
connector E (“DC IN”) of the docking station and the other end to the included power adapter.
• Plug the power adapter into a mains socket.
• The docking station starts automatically and is recognised by your computer. The respective
SSD is displayed as a drive on your computer.
A new SSD must first be partitioned and formatted before the drive appears in the
file manager and can be used (see subsection “Partitioning/formatting hard drives”).
c) Partitioning/formatting SSDs
• In order to partition/format the SSDs, please follow the instructions in the manual of your
operating system.
• Once an SSD has been partitioned, the newly created partition must first be formatted. Fast
formatting is sufficient in this case. Depending on the capacity of the hard drive, regular
formatting may take a long time to complete.
• Consult a technician if you are unsure about partitioning/formatting of the hard drive.
• Make sure you have selected the correct SSD before you proceed with partitioning/formatting.
d) Cloning/copying SSDs
The clone function enables to copy the content of the SSD that is inserted in Slot A (“Source
HDD1”) to the SSD in Slot B (“Target HDD2”). An exact copy of the SSD is created.
The target SSD must have at least the same capacity as the master SSD.
All data stored on the target SSD will be deleted at the beginning of the cloning
process. If a capacity of the target SSD is larger than that of the master SSD, the
free space can be used as an additional partition.
Note that upon completion of the cloning process, both SSDs will have the same ID.
An attempt to connect both SSDs to the same computer will result in a recognition
conflict. Only one SSD will be shown in the file manager. To resolve this conflict,
set the status of the SSD marked as “offline” to “online” in the disk management
utility or partition software. Further information can be found in the Help menu of the
operating system.
• If the docking station is connected to the power supply and/or to your PC, disconnect the data
connection and the power supply.
• Insert the source SSD in the left Slot A (“Source HDD1”).
• Insert the target SSD in the right Slot B (“Target HDD2”).
• Reconnect the docking station to the power supply.
The docking station must not be connected to a computer or any other device during
the cloning process.
• Keep the Clone/Copy button (C) pressed for approx. 5 to 10 seconds until the LED (D) “25%”
begins to glow. This marks the beginning of the cloning process.
• During the cloning process, the LEDs for “50%”, “75%” and “100%” will gradually light up to
show the current progress.
• Once only the “100%” LED glows, the cloning process is complete.
• Either way, first disconnect the docking station from the power supply. Then you can initiate
another cloning process or connect the docking station to your computer.
Care and cleaning
• Disconnect the product from the power supply before cleaning.
• Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the product.
• Never use aggressive detergents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions, as these may
damage the casing or cause the product to malfunction.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be placed in household
waste. At the end of its service life, dispose of the product according to the relevant
statutory regulations.
