• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off immediately and check all the settings
and cable connections.
Before opening the PC again, disconnect the PC from the mains voltage, see above!
Driver installation
Windows detects the plug-in card automatically. Stop the automatic search for the drivers or
the hardware recognition.
Insert the supplied data carrier into the respective drive of your computer.
The required drivers are in the directory “Realtek \ RTL8111_8125” and there in the subdirec-
tory for the appropriate operating system.
Start the programme “Setup.exe” in this directory and follow all of the instructions of the pro-
gram or from Windows.
After the driver has been installed, it is necessary to restart before the plug-in card can work
correctly.
In newer versions of the driver software, this procedure could potentially change.
Tips and Notes
• PoE 2.5 Gigabit-LAN requires at least fully switched CAT5e network cables (all 8 leads are
required for one connection).
• The “LINK/ACT” LED on the plug-in card indicates data transmission (LED flashes) or an
available connection to the network (LED remains on).
• If you have a network or system administrator for your network (in a large company, for
example), please allow this person to take responsibility for installation and configuration.
Do not install the plug-in card in the computer yourself.
• The specified maximum data transfer rate of 2500 MBit, or about 312 MByte/s, is never
reached in practical operations. That is caused by the transfer technology used, transfer
errors, other devices in the network, etc. Depending on the computer & network used,
however, much higher data rates are possible than with 100 MBit networks.
• With Windows, it might take some time until the PCs appear on the network. Normally, you
cannot access another PC immediately after you have switched on the PCs and Windows
has loaded on all the PCs. If, after a few minutes, it is still not possible to access other PCs,
check any firewall and/or virus scanner settings that may be used.
Naturally, the access permissions also have to be set accordingly, if you are using an oper-
ating system that offers such features.
Consult the applicable operating instructions, when using a network printer or other devices
in the network.
There are numerous causes explaining why a network connection is not successful. Please
refer to the appropriate specialist literature or to a specialist technician.
• If you are not using your own DHCP server (e.g. integrated in all DSL routers), you should
assign each device in the network its own permanent IP address.
• For example, set the router to 192.168.1.1, the first computer to 192.168.1.2, the second
computer to 192.168.1.3, etc. The first three numbers must be the same for all computers;
the last number can take values from 1 to 254.
The additionally required “subnet mask” has to be set to 255.255.255.0 for all the computers
and devices in the network.
It is imperative that you ensure that one IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.1) is used only
one time in the network. If you set your router to the IP address 192.168.1.1, no
other device in the network may use this IP address!

Installation
If you do not have the expertise to perform the installation, please arrange for
the installation to be carried out by an expert or a suitable specialist shop!
Incorrect installation can cause damage to the plug-in card and also to your
computer and all connected devices.
Switch off the computer in which the plug-in card is to be installed, and all
connected devices, and disconnect all devices from the mains voltage. Dis-
connect the plug from the mains! Switching off with the on/off switch is not
sufficient!
• Open your computer’s housing and carefully remove the cover.
• Locate a free PCI-E slot; remove the corresponding slot bracket and insert the card into the
PCI-E slot. Screw the plug-in card firmly in place.
If you are going to install the plug-in card in a flat computer casing, a low-profile slot
bracket is provided. Remove the long slot bracket from the plug-in card and then
mount the low-profile slot plate.
• Connect the network card to a 15-pin SATA power connection of the PC network device.
• Close the housing of your computer.
• Connect the computer and monitor to the mains voltage again and switch on all devices.
