Handling
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet!
There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold
room to a warm one. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit.
This might cause a lethal electric shock!
Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to the
power supply and putting it in to use. This may take several hours.
• Any maintenance or repair work must only be carried out by authorised
personnel.
• Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains supply!
A safe operation can no longer be assumed, if:
- the product exhibits visible damage,
- the product does not function or does not function properly (e.g., smell
of burning),
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked
nor pinched.
• If you do not use the product for a longer period of time (e.g., during sto-
rage), disconnect the power plug from the mains socket (all the network
connections cease to function!)
• Avoid the following unfavourable environmental conditions at the installa-
tion location and during transportation:
- excessive humidity or damp,
- extreme cold or heat,
- dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents,
- strong vibrations.
Maintenance and cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for
any reason.
Disconnect the product from the power supply before cleaning, pull the power plug
out of the mains socket (all network connections cease to function).
Dust can easily be removed using a clean, soft brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Do not use aggressive detergents as this can cause discolouration.
While cleaning, do not press the surface too hard to avoid scratches.
Tips & notes
• If you have your own network or system administrator for your network (as will pro-
bably be the case in a larger company), please let this person assume the responsi-
bility for connection and wiring. Do not connect the gigabit switch yourself!
• The twisted-pair cable (also denoted as patch cable) between the gigabit switch
and the device to be connected should have a max. length of 100 m. Use only so-
called CAT5e cables that are fully wired (all 8 contacts of the RJ45 connector are
connected 1:1).
• The maximum theoretical data transfer rate of 10, 100 or 1000MBit/s is usually not
achieved in practice (e.g., 1000MBit = approx. 125MByte/s). During data transmis-
sion, not only data, but also protocol information etc is transmitted, data packages
must be repeated or different computers may want to transmit data at the same
time. Furthermore, the data must e.g., be read off the hard disk of one computer and
written onto the hard disk of another computer.
• If the gigabit switch is not supplied with power, all the connections will be out of
operation. A network connection is not possible.
• You can control the network connection with the help of the green LED in each RJ45
networksocket available on the gigabit switch.
The LED lights up in the steady mode when there is a smooth network connection or
it flashes during data transmission.
If the green LED goes off, please check the following:
- Is the power-LED on the gigabit switch on? If no, check the power supply of the
gigabit switch.
- Is the connected device (e.g. computer) switched on?
- Is the network cabling faultless? For test purposes, use another networkcable or
check whether the RJ45 connect pins are inserted properly in the corresponding
socket. If network sockets are used, check their cabling.
Disposal
Electrical and electronic products do not belong in the household waste!
When disposing of an unserviceable product, do so in line with the relevant
statutory regulations.
