Pyrodigital® to DMX Converter - Model PD2DMX-512D
Operation
The second condition that can disable the module is the use of the
Arm/
Safe
switch. Placing the switch into the
Safe
position disables the
module and illuminates the LED green. It will remain lit until the switch
is placed back into the
Arm
position. If the switch is in the
Safe
position
when the module is powered up, the LED will remain lit green even after a
successful self test. Since the modules are powered by the field controller,
the LED only functions when the field controller is powered on and the key
is in the
ARM
position.
If the module detects a fault during operation, the LED will blink continuously
at a rate of about two flashes per second. Once a fault has been detected,
the module will not respond to fire commands.
The LED also indicates reception of valid data from the controller. The
color of the LED blink indicates the type of data it is receiving. In Mode
1, a fire command (to an odd terminal) to set a DMX channel’s output to
100% (full) will flash the LED red. Receiving a fire command (to an even
terminal) to set a DMX channel to 0% will result in a brief green flash.
In Mode 2, fire commands which increase the DMX output value from its
current value will cause the LED to flash red, while fire commands that
reduce the current DMX value will flash the LED green. During continuity
checking, the LED will flicker red as the field controller constantly polls
the module for its continuity status. The LED will blink regardless of the
position of the
Arm/Safe
switch when data is received.
Sending DMX Data To Connected DMX Devices
Due to the nature of the DMX protocol and its inherent ability to hold
output values at the same level indefinitely versus the PD protocol which
is intended to cause outputs to remain ‘on’ only for a brief amount of time,
programming the field controller for use with this module is somewhat
different than when using Pyrodigital® modules.
There are two modes of operation which control how the PD2DMX-512D
translates PD “Fire” commands to DMX output levels. The following
are examples of how to program the Field Controller to interact with the
PD2DMX-512D’s two modes.
