The fairing is used to:
•
Vertically orient the sound beam by mounting the transducer parallel to the
water surface.
•
Minimize aerated water flowing over the transducer’s face by mounting it
in deeper water.
•
Reduce drag by directing the water around the multisensor
A fairing is available from your Raytheon dealer (part number M99142). It is
made of high impact urethane with an integrated cutting guide. The fairing can
be shaped to accommodate a deadrise angle of up to 25° and a wide range of
hull thicknesses as follows:
Hull thickness (no fairing): ¼–2½" (6–65 mm)
Hull thickness with fairing:¼–¾" (6–19 mm)
Backing Block
A backing block is used inside the hull to provide a level surface for the hull
nut to seat against (see Figure 2-12). After cutting the fairing, use the
remaining section with the cutting guide as the backing block (see
Figure 2-13).
