The socket address is a combination of the IP address or the hostname of the
R&S
AREG800A and the number of the port configured for remote-control via Tel-
net.
Tip:
The R&S
AREG800A uses the port number 5025 for remote connection via
Telnet.
The connection to the instrument is set up and you can send remote-control com-
mands.
4. Telnet does not reflect your first entry.
Insert a command, e.g.
*IDN
and confirm with "Enter".
5. Observe the screen.
A response on the query confirms that the connection is working. The client dis-
plays all subsequent inputs and responses.
6. Even if the cursor is not visible on the screen, blindly enter a remote-control com-
mand. Confirm with Enter.

Setting up a remote control connection over USB
For remote control via the USB connection, the PC and the instrument must be con-
nected via the USB type B interface. A USB connection requires the VISA library to be
installed. VISA detects and configures the R&S instrument automatically when the
USB connection is established. You do not have to enter an address string or install a
separate driver.
