Installation

SpeechPOD can be installed on walls or ceilings, but should

be installed in a location where the PIR Detector can ‘see’
persons entering the protected area.

The maximum distance that SpeechPOD will detect move-
ment is 5 metres (6 yards) with a 70 degree field of view.

Detection is immediate within this area and depending on
how you set up the SpeechPOD User Options your message

will be broadcast immediately.

SpeechPOD Voice Warning System (Part No SPK-POD-A

User Programmable Messages

SpeechPOD can be programmed with up to 7 user messages in any language. These messages are recorded and
programmed as detailed in the SpeechPOD Programming Data Sheet and are not covered in this guide.

User Option Menu

SpeechPOD is best programmed using the infra red remote control unit which opens up all the user options avail-
able.

Quick Start Guide

SpeechPOD is supplied with a number of standard, pre-programmed messages and settings, and can be put into
immediate operation. A summary of the default settings are shown below; any changes must be made prior to
fitting the battery or powering the system from an external power source. When you are happy with the configura-
tion:

•

Insert a PP3 battery or connect a suitable external supply to terminals ve and –ve. Note: do not fit
a battery if an external supply is being used).

•

If the passive infrared is to be used to activate the product, plug the 3-way connector into the top right-
hand male header. The header is keyed to ensure correct polarity; do not attempt to force the connector
into the header incorrectly.

•

For external activation, connect a normally open, voltage-free momentary contact to terminals marked
COM and TRIG IN. An external trigger can be used in place of, or in addition to the PIR detector. This input
can be programmed to operate normally closed going open by purchasing the Voice Programming Kit
(Part No PROG-KIT)

•

SpeechPOD can be triggered externally from devices such as Magnetic door contacts, proximity switches,
pressure sensors (such as floor pads) or other alarm equipment using NO or NC clean contacts.

•

Refit the front cover when completed and secure with the self tapping screw provided,

•

Insert plastic protection cover to hide screw.
