Basic Operation

1. Log on to GUI using the admin user and default password (password). You should reset this 

password. From Tools > User Accounts, select the admin user and enter a new password. Note 

and save the password.

2. To add user accounts, select Tools > User Accounts > Add; select the access controls and the 

roles you want the user to have. 

3. To add a file system, select Configuration > File Systems > New; the number of file systems 

can be either two or four. The default is two file systems.

4. Power on and shutdown the StorNext M330 described in the StorNext M330 Hardware Guide

(Refer to the “Powering on the StorNext M330 System” and “Shutting Down the StorNext M330 

System” sections.)

5. Monitoring from the StorNext GUI.

• StorNext M330 

Home page: Provides status and capacity monitors for file systems, libraries, 

storage disks, and tape drives.

• StorNext Advanced Reporting: generate and view performance statistics for the StorNext M330 

system and see how those statistics change over time. Tools > Advanced Reporting

• Monitoring primary and secondary hardware components: shows up-to-date information 

about the system board, network ports and Fibre Channel ports for both MDCs, plus the 

storage arrays. Reports > Hardware Status

The metadata array

 contains SAS HDDs that are in a RAID 1 configuration for StorNext metadata 

and journal storage. The metadata array also features redundant power supplies and dual IO 

controller paths, enabling automatic IO failover. The StorNext M330 metadata array ships with one 

global hot spare, a LUN with a shared file system, and two additional LUNs for user file systems.

Hardware

The Quantum StorNext M330 is powered by a pair of metadata controllers (MDC) configured for 

automatic failover. Each controller has dual power supplies, redundant cooling and dual 8Gb Fibre 

Channel ports. Each MDC has two SAS hard disk drives (HDDs) in a RAID 1 configuration. The HDDs 

store the CentOS 5.4 OS software and StorNext M330 software.

Locating the System Serial Number and ID Number
