Testing the QNET Rotary Pendulum

Ensure that the
+15V, -15V, +5V,
and the
External
Power
LEDs on
the QNET board
are lit.
Click on the
STOP button
to stop run-
ning the VI.
Click on the
white arrow
to run the VI.
Ensure that the
pendulum is in
the downward
gantry position,
and is perfectly
stationary.
Slowly raise the pendulum
to the upright position.
When the pendulum is close to
vertical, the controller will activate
and attempt to balance the
pendulum. Immediately release
the pendulum when you feel
the controller engage.
Select the device
name to match your
NI ELVIS II device as shown
in the NI Measurement
&
Automation Explorer in the
Device
control.
The scopes should look similar to those shown here.
Otherwise, consult the troubleshooting section at
the end
of this
guide.
Open the LabVIEW VirtuaI Instrument
(*.vi) found under the
Quick Start
folder

Power on the NI ELVIS II using the power switch on the
back of the unit. The
READY
and
ACTIVE
LEDs on the
top NI ELVIS II panel should briefl y light, and the
READY
LED stays on.

Connect the QNET Rotary Pendulum power supply.

Make sure your PC,
NI ELVIS II, and QNET
board are powered ON.
Open the
Quick Start
folder from the
Rotary Pendulum
folder in the
QNET Resources. The QNET Resources are available for download from
www.ni.com/qnets.
Power on the QNET Rotary
Pendulum by turning the
NI ELVIS II prototyping
board power switch. The
POWER
LED next to the
switch should light up.
