SerialKeys
is a feature within
Accessibility Options
, which is a control panel
in the Windows
®
2000 and XP operating system.
SerialKeys
allows alternative
access to the computer by emulating keyboard and mouse features. The
Seri-
alKeys
option takes the serial input and redirects it to the keyboard buffer.
To turn
SerialKeys
On:
1. From the
Start
menu, select
Settings > Control Panel
.
2. From the
Control Panel
, double-click on
Accessibility Options
icon to
open it.
3. Click the
General
tab.
4. At the bottom of the
General
tab, check the
Support SerialKey Devices
box
.
5. To the right of
Support SerialKey Devices
, click on the
Settings
box to
open
Settings For SerialKeys
.
6. Select
COM1
from the
Serial Port
pull-down list and
1200
from the
Baud Rate
pull-down list.
7. Open Word Pad and use the PowerScan to scan a bar code. The data
should appear in Word Pad.
To turn
SerialKeys
on, the user must have administrative rights to the computer.
