Overview of Forum Gateway 560 
Components

Forum 5004 / 5008 / 5012 or Forum 550 type communications systems 
are used as Forum Gateways 560 which function in a special operation mode 
as a Forum Gateway 560. Each Forum Gateway 560 consists of a frame 
which is equipped with at least one power supply and a central control 
module Forum 550 Card main processor. Each frame also offers 12 slots for 
interface cards and an available space for an additional power supply (see 
also 

Forum Gateway 560 Modules

 starting on page 115).

The central control module Forum 550 Card main processor executes the 
Forum Gateway 560 firmware provided by the Forum 5004/5008/5012 
communications system. The central control module contains the following 
components for operating a frame as a Forum Gateway 560:

●

A CompactFlash card with at least 128 Mbytes for saving the 
Forum Gateway 560 configuration and the Forum Gateway 560 
firmware. The CompactFlash card must meet special requirements. This is 
why you use only the CompactFlash card that comes with the communi-
cations system.

●

An Ethernet port to connect the Forum Gateway 560 and the 
Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system via LAN.

●

A PCM interface and a frame configuration switch on the motherboard for 
connecting 2 Forum Gateways 560 via PCM-V line (see also 

Forum Gateway 560 Connection via PCM-V Connection

 starting on 

page 133).

●

Two serial ports which are not used for Forum Gateway 560 operation.
