Signalling and Audio Channels
Forum 5004/5008/5012 and Gateways

The call server of the Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system and
all connected gateways must be operated on a LAN. Lossless data transfer
with low latency and 100 Mbit/s is the prerequisite for interference-free
telephony. To ensure data transfer you should use suitable network
technology, e.g. a switch with QoS, an own VLAN or wiring separate from the
company LAN.
Routers can also be used to connect the call server of the Forum 5004/
5008/5012 communications system and the gateways connected. Using the
web interface of the gateway you have to define a fixed IP address and the
standard gateway to be used (see
Operating a Gateway via Router
on page 69). Please note that due to unencrypted communication and the
speed requirements a connection via internet is not supported.
Tip:
For connecting distant locations, use the telecommunications
system networking options (see
Signalling and Audio Channels
Each hardware unit has an audio processor (Forum 5012: 2 audio processors).
The audio processor provides multiple VoIP audio channels implemented as
RTP data stream with the G.711 or G.729 codecs. The following applies
generally: Each audio connection which leaves the hardware unit via a VoIP
connection requires an audio channel.
