Seat Belts
DANGER
Unfastened or incor-
rectly used seat belts
A seat belt that is not fastened will not provide any
protection in the event of an accident. A seat belt
that is not fastened correctly can increase the risk of
injury in the event of an accident.
e
All occupants must always fasten their seat belts
before the start of a journey.
e
Also provide your passengers with all the infor-
mation in this section.
e
Never allow two people to use the
same
seat belt
at the same time.
e
Remove any loose articles of clothing, as they
can interfere with the correct position of the seat
belt and restrict your freedom of movement.
e
Do not place the seat belts across hard or
breakable objects (e.g. glasses, ball-point pens,
cell phones etc.).
Objects of this kind pose an additional risk of
injury.
e
Make sure that the seat belt is not twisted or
loose.
e
Use appropriate child restraint systems for all
children.
e
Seat belts must be positioned on the body as to
restrain the upper body and lap from sliding for-
ward. Improperly positioned seat belts can cause
serious personal injury in case of an accident.
e
The shoulder belt should always rest on your
upper body. The shoulder belt should never be
worn behind your back or under your arm.
e
For maximum effectiveness, the lap belt should
be worn low across the hips.
e
Do not position the lap belt at your stomach be-
cause this could cause injuries in an accident.
e
Pregnant women should position the seat belt as
low as possible across the pelvis. Make sure it is
not pressing against the abdomen.
e
Seat belts must not rub against sharp objects or
damage may occur to the belt.
DANGER
Using damaged seat
belts
Damaged, heavily stressed or worn seat belts do not
offer sufficient protection in the event of an
accident.
The seat belt pretensioner system can be triggered
only once. Triggered seat belt pretensioner systems
must be replaced.
e
Check all seat belts regularly for signs of damage
in the fabric, and check that the buckle and at-
tachment points function correctly.
e
Keep belt buckles free of any obstruction that
may prevent secure locking.
e
Seat belts that are damaged or have been heavily
stressed in an accident must be replaced.
If a seat belt pretensioner is triggered it must al-
so be replaced.
In addition, the anchor points of the belts must
be checked.
Work may be carried out on the seat belt pre-
tensioner system only by qualified specialist
employees from an authorized Porsche dealer.
Please see your authorized Porsche dealer im-
mediately after detecting a fault or damage. If
the seat belts show damage to webbing, bind-
ings, buckles or retractors, they should be re-
placed to ensure safe operation.
e
Do not modify or disassemble the seat belts in
your vehicle.
e
The seat belts must be kept clean or the retrac-
tors may not work properly
e
Never bleach or dye seat belts.
e
Do not allow seat belts to retract until they are
completely dry after cleaning or this may cause
damage to the belt.
Seat-belt pretensioners
Triggering of the seat-belt pretensioners depends on
the severity of the accident.
The seat-belt pretensioners can be triggered during:
– Front or rear collisions
– Side impacts
– Vehicle rollover
Information
Smoke may be released when the seat-belt preten-
sioners are triggered. This does not necessarily mean
that the vehicle is on fire.
