WITH AIR CONDITIONING
Drain the coolant.
1.
Disconnect the water hoses at the heater core tubes to prevent spilling coolant during removal.
2.
Remove the glove compartment.
3.
Remove the cold air duct and heater outlet.
4.
Remove the defroster duct attaching screw.
5.
Remove the screws and nuts which retain the case to the dash. Remove the blower motor resistor to gain access to the upper
retaining nut inside the evaporator case.
6.
Move the core and case assembly rearward to free the attaching studs from the cowl and remove the core and case
assembly.
7.
Disconnect the temperature cable and vacuum hoses from the core and case assembly.
8.
Remove the core and case assembly from the car.
9.
Remove the heater core retaining screws and core.
10.
Reverse the above steps for installation.

1978-81 LeMans and Grand Am
WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING
On some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the lower windshield trim, rubber seals and/or screens for access to the
heater core.
1.
Disconnect the hoses from the core tubes. Plug them to avoid coolant loss.
2.
On the engine side of the firewall, remove the heater core cover from the case.
3.
Remove the core bracket and ground screw.
4.
Lift out the core.
5.
Reverse the procedure for installation.
6.
WITH AIR CONDITIONING
Operate the wipers to the up position.
1.
Disconnect the hoses at the core tubes.
2.
Remove the sealing material and screens from the cooling module.
3.
Disconnect all wires from the case.
4.
Move the lower windshield reverse molding out of the way.
5.
Tape a strip of wood to the lower edge of the glass for protection.
6.
Remove the module core cover screws.
7.
Cut the cover seal with a knife.
8.
Pry the cover off from the side, not from the top.
9.
Lift out the core.
