The pocket pit lap counting system uses a small line of sight infrared
transponder to send a predefined code to the track side receiver box.
The receiver box connects to a mobile device using Bluetooth to
automatically count and time your laps using a real time stopwatch
within the Pocket Pit app.
Installation
The receiver box requires 4 x AAA batteries (Not included). Remove
the retaining screw on the base of the unit and install batteries before
operation.
Personal Transponder
Plug the personal transponder into a spare receiver slot.
Transponder Mounting Options
Using a piece of Lexan, install the blue
infrared LED into your car so it is
directed out of one of the side windows.
It could be mounted directly on the
window (as shown) or on the chassis of
the car.
Ream a small hole directly in the side of your shell to form a small 4.8
to 5mm hole and create a tight interference ft for your IR LED to fit
into. The side of the car you choose will determine where you place
the lap counter receiver at the side of the track.
Mount the LED onto the end of a small length of aerial tube and fix
into the cars aerial mount with the LED pointing out of the side of
the car.
When mounting the IR transponder, the blue IR LED must be in a
fixed position with the tip pointing out of the car to the side of the
track where the receiver box will be positioned. The LED must be
pointing out of a clear window or out of a hole in the shell. Failure to
fix the LED correctly could lead to missed laps.
Examples of mounting the IR LED
Warning!
Do not bend the wires directly at the base of the
LED as they could snap!
Positioning the Receiver Box
: The Bluetooth receiver box uses a low
power Bluetooth device that must be positioned within 10m of your
Android phone, iPhone, iPad or iPod.
Position the box approx. 100mm above the edge of the track so the
infrared signal has a clear line of site to the infrared receiver on the
side of the box. Push in the large black on/off switch so the red light
comes on and the lap counter is now ready for you to connect to.
Launch the application on your device and connect to the box using
the Auto button. Make sure you have entered your serial number
into the settings window.
When connected, the app will automatically start when your car first
passes the receiver box. When you pass for the first time the app will
tell you the lap counter and clock has started. You can use the
speakers of your device or headphones to listen to your lap times
live.
The lap counter software will continue until the designated race time
has passed and will stop automatically when you pass on the next lap.
When you have finished your run you can save your lap times for
future reference. WARNING! Do not exit the lap timer before you
have saved your lap times, or you will lose the data.
Troubleshooting
