Music server
This unit can p lay audio files sto r ed on PCs o r othe r
com p onents on a Local A r ea Netwo r k (LAN).
Introduction
This unit allows you to listen to audio files o r listen to Inte r net
r adio stations on a com p ute r o r othe r com p onent connected
to the unit via LAN inte r face. This cha p te r desc r ibes the setu p
and p layback pr ocedu r es r equi r ed to enjoy these featu r es. It
is adviso r y that you also r efe r to the o p e r ation manual
su pp lied with you r netwo r k com p onent.
• Photo o r video files cannot be p layed back.
• With Windows Media Playe r 11 o r Windows Media
Playe r 12, you can even p lay back co p y r ighted audio files
on this unit.
About playable DLNA network devices
This unit allows you to p lay music on media se r ve r s
connected on an identical Local A r ea Netwo r k (LAN) as the
unit. This unit allows you to p lay files sto r ed on the following
devices:
• PCs r unning Mic r osoft Windows Vista o r XP with
Windows Media Playe r 11 installed
• PCs r unning Mic r osoft Windows 7 with Windows Media
Playe r 12 installed
• DLNA-com p atible digital media se r ve r s (on PCs o r othe r
com p onents)
Files sto r ed in a PC o r DMS (Digital Media Se r ve r ) as
desc r ibed above can be p layed via command f r om an exte r nal
Digital Media Cont r olle r (DMC). Devices cont r olled by this
DMC to p lay files a r e called DMRs (Digital Media Rende r e r s).
This unit su pp o r ts this DMR function. When in the DMR
mode, such o p e r ations as p laying and sto pp ing files can be
p e r fo r med f r om the exte r nal cont r olle r . Volume adjustment
and the muting cont r ol a r e also p ossible. The DMR mode is
canceled if the r emote cont r ol unit is o p e r ated while in the
DMR mode (aside f r om ce r tain buttons, including the
/–
,
MUTE
and
DISP OFF
).
• De p ending on the exte r nal cont r olle r being used,
p layback may be inte rr u p ted when the volume is
adjusted f r om the cont r olle r . In this case, adjust the
volume f r om the unit o r r emote cont r ol.
Using AirPlay on iPod touch, iPhone, iPad and
iTunes
This unit su pp o r ts Ai r Play audio st r eaming f r om iPod touch
(2nd, 3 r d and 4th gene r ations), iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad
with iOS 4.2 o r late r , and iTunes 10.1 (Mac and PC) o r late r .
To use Ai r Play, select you r unit on you r iPod touch, iPhone,
iPad o r in iTunes and sta r t p layback.

In p ut to the unit will switch automatically when Ai r Play is in
use.
The following o p e r ations can be p e r fo r med when in Ai r Play
mode:
• Adjustment of the unit’s volume f r om iPod touch,
iPhone, iPad o r iTunes.
• Pause/ r esume, next/ pr evious t r ack, and shuffle/ r e p eat
f r om the r emote cont r ol of the unit.
• Dis p lay of the cu rr ently p laying t r ack info r mation on the
unit’s main dis p lay, including a r tist, song/album name
and album a r two r k.

Tip
• A netwo r k envi r onment is r equi r ed to use Ai r Play.
• The unit’s name that shows u p in the Ai r Play UI on iPod
touch, iPhone, iPad and iTunes can be changed by
Friendly Name
f r om
Network Setting

• Ai r Play pr ovided on this unit has been develo p ed and
tested based on the softwa r e ve r sions fo r the iPod touch,
iPhone, iPad and the softwa r e ve r sions fo r iTunes that
a r e indicated on the Pionee r website. Ai r Play may not be
com p atible with iPod touch, iPhone, iPad o r iTunes
softwa r e ve r sions othe r than those indicated on the
Pionee r website.
About the DHCP server function
To p lay back audio files sto r ed on com p onents on the
netwo r k, you must tu r n on the DHCP se r ve r function of you r
r oute r .
In case you r r oute r does not have the built-in DHCP se r ve r
function, it is necessa r y to set u p the netwo r k manually.
Othe r wise, you cannot p lay back audio files sto r ed on
com p onents on the netwo r k o r listen to Inte r net r adio
stations. See Network setting on p age 30 fo r mo r e on this.
Authorizing this unit
This unit must be autho r ized to enable p layback. The unit is
automatically autho r ized when it is connected to a PC ove r a
netwo r k. If not, p lease autho r ize this unit manually on the PC.
The autho r ization (o r p e r mission) method fo r access va r ies
de p ending on the ty p e of se r ve r cu rr ently being connected.
